Abstract

Background. The statistics of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the last 15-20 years shows a decrease in mortality from cerebral strokes in Russia. The purpose of this study is to conduct a comparative analysis of mortality and lethality rates from acute cerebral circulatory disorders in Russia for the period from 2000 to 2016.
Materials and methods. A comparative analysis of lethality and mortality rates in Russia according to the WHO website, statistical data collection and registers, published in the open press.
Results. The data obtained are systematized in the form of tables, the analysis of which revealed the relationships, patterns and trends reflected in the conclusions.
Conclusion. Mortality rates significantly depend on the type of stroke. Lethality is also determined by the type of stroke and is at ischemic – on average 20 %, and at hemorrhagic – 60 %. Men die from acute disorders of cerebral circulation more often than women. With increasing age, mortality from both types of stroke increases. In the age groups up to 50 years, mortality rates, both in men and women, are significantly shifted toward hemorrhagic stroke. Simultaneously with an increase in the age of up to 50-69 years, the differences in sex in mortality rates decrease and there is a tendency for the prevalence of mortality from ischemic stroke. Maximum mortality rate is observed in the age group of 70 years and older, and mortality from ischemic stroke, both in women and men, prevails over mortality from hemorrhagic stroke. At the same time, mortality from ischemic strokes in women is twice or more than that in men, which is associated with a shorter life expectancy for men, as well as with the physiological features of the body of women.
